Conducting Research Abroad - SIT Students

The HRPO social-behavioral committee no longer requires HRPO approval of independent study projects conducted by SIT students. You DO NOT need HRPO approval prior to commencing your ISP through SIT.

However, Washington University's Human Research Education Program (CITI) is required to be complete BEFORE you start your SIT ISP.

If you elect to use the data collected from your ISP to write an honors thesis or present the data in any venue outside of a classroom setting, you will need HRPO approval at that time.

This policy applies ONLY to undergraduate students studying abroad through SIT. All other students who intend to collect data for research purposes - while studying abroad or locally - must obtain HRPO approval prior to data collection.
